Terms and Conditions
Returns and exchanges of merchandise sold by Houghton Horns LLC are permitted upon approval within seven days of receipt. (Specific policies for different categories of products are listed below.) A paper or email receipt is required for all returns. The buyer must contact Houghton Horns LLC by email or via phone to obtain approval. Returns outside of the return period, or those without approval will be refused and returned to the owner. Refunds are given in the amount of the purchase price and any sales tax paid. No refunds can be given for shipping/freight charges. If the free shipping option was utilized, Houghton Horns LLC’s shipping and handling costs will be deducted from the refund. The buyer is responsible for return shipping and applicable shipping insurance fees. No returns will be accepted nor refunds given for orders that were initially shipped outside of the United States of America by Houghton Horns LLC. Items that show any signs of use or wear may be subject to a restocking fee up to 25% to be determined solely by Houghton Horns LLC.
The following items cannot be returned or exchanged unless there was an error made by Houghton Horns LLC concerning the order, or a manufacturing defect as covered by our warranty.
- Maintenance accessories (cleaning snakes, polishing cloths, oils, etc.)
- Stretched and/or deformed Leather Specialties guards
- Print and recorded media (including sheet music)
- Special order items that Houghton Horns does not normally stock
- Items that have been customized by the repair shop
Special Order Items
Special orders for items Houghton Horns does not normally stock cannot be returned or exchanged. A 25% non-refundable deposit is required to place a special order. The balance of the invoice is due when we receive notice from the supplier/manufacturer that the item is ready to be shipped to us. Special orders for items we normally stock are refundable according to that item’s category listing in our Terms and Conditions. A fully-refundable 25% deposit is still required to place the order.
Instruments and Instrument Components
A 7-day trial period is included with all instruments sold by Houghton Horns LLC. The customer must pay the full price of the instrument plus any shipping charges to Houghton Horns LLC before the trial can begin. Houghton Horns LLC will ship the item to the customer if requested. The customer is required to report any shipping damage to the instrument, case, or other accessories immediately upon receipt. Seven days after the customer’s receipt of the instrument, he or she is obligated to either return the instrument (at the customer’s own expense) or purchase it. Houghton Horns LLC must be notified by phone or email that the customer wishes to return the instrument before sending it back. If the instrument is not shipped nor returned directly to Houghton Horns LLC by the end of the trial period and if Houghton Horns LLC is not notified of the instrument’s return by the end of the trial period, it will be considered sold and will no longer be accepted back, nor will any refund be given. If the instrument is returned, Houghton Horns LLC will process a full refund after it is inspected and declared to be in the same condition in which it was shipped to the customer. If the free shipping option was utilized, Houghton Horns LLC’s shipping and handling costs will be deducted from the refund. If the instrument is declared to have been damaged by the customer, repair and depreciation costs will be taken out of the refund. The customer is responsible for any damage that may have occurred in transit back to Houghton Horns LLC. Houghton Horns LLC highly encourages the customer to purchase shipping insurance. No trial period is offered for instruments ordered or shipped outside of the United States of America.
If the customer requests customization of their instrument, for example a bell cut or the addition of a water key, the 7-day trial period is void and the instrument cannot be returned or exchanged, unless Houghton Horns made a mistake with their customization or there is manufacturing damage covered under our warranty.
Mouthpieces and Mouthpiece Components
Mouthpieces that show any signs of use (worn shank, scratches, dings, dirt, etc.) may be subject to a restocking fee up to 25% to be determined solely by Houghton Horns LLC.
Worn, washed, or stained clothing that is returned to us will be refused and given back to the owner.
Personal Check Acceptance Policy
- We will only accept personal checks up to $5000.
- Checks must be presented and signed in person (no mailed checks).
- No checks will be accepted without the presentation of a valid driver’s license or state ID.
- Checks with a PO Box will not be accepted.
- Temporary checks will not be accepted.
- Checks numbered under 300 will not be accepted.
- Post-dated checks will not be accepted.
- We will not agree to hold a check for any length of time.
- There is a $50 fee for all bounced checks.
Payment is accepted and processed when the order is initially placed.
Shipping to a Non-Billing Address
If your order is shipping to an address other than the billing address on your credit card, we may contact you to list the alternate address with your credit card company.
Your order will not be processed until your payment has been confirmed. This helps prevent fraudulent use of your credit card.

Orders will be processed within 3 business days. Items shipped to the 48 contiguous U.S. states should arrive in 3 – 7 business days depending on delivery location. Items shipped to Alaska, Hawaii, and other U.S. territories and possessions will take an additional 2 – 6 business days for delivery.
Orders from outside the contiguous 48 states are excluded from free shipping promotions. We proudly offer standard shipping (including free shipping promotions) to military addresses! However, due to carrier size restrictions not all items are available for shipment.
Free shipping promotions are not available for pre-owned instruments, tubas, and other large, heavy, or bulky items.
Sheet music can be shipped by USPS Media Mail for a significantly lower price, but be aware that in return Media Mail is much slower than other USPS shipping services.

Shipping time frames are dependent on various factors such as items selected, shipping destination, and the shipping method selected. We cannot guarantee delivery dates for international shipments. No returns will be accepted nor refunds given for orders that were initially shipped outside of the United States of America.
Any customs and duties charges are the responsibility of the customer. Please consult your local postal service or customs office if you have questions about the customs and duties that may be imposed on your purchase during international travel.
The Terms and Conditions and all matters regarding the interpretation and/or enforcement hereof, will be governed exclusively by the laws of the State of Texas. All disputes arising in connection with the Terms and Conditions will be submitted to the jurisdiction of the courts in Tarrant County, Texas.
