Fine-tune your Shires tenor trombone's sound and response with a Custom Series main tuning slide. Different materials, tapers, and construction options let you select a configuration that complements your instrument and playing preferences.

Instrument designation:

• T: Medium- or large-bore tenor trombone.

Material:

• Y: Yellow brass, offering a clear sound and defined articulation.
• G: Gold brass, offering a warmer sound and more rounded articulation.
• D: German rose brass, available in seamed tuning slides only.

Taper:

• Unmarked: Standard orchestral tenor taper, with an open, clear, flexible sound.
• X: Focused tenor taper with a harmonic alignment familiar to players of classic New York instruments. Works well with TB handslides and TII bells.

Crook construction:

• Unmarked: Unseamed crook, made from unseamed tubing.
• S suffix: Seamed crook, formed from brass sheet with a brazed seam before drawing. This construction tends to favor projection, though it may provide less feedback to the player than an unseamed crook.

Configuration examples:

• TY: Tenor tuning slide in yellow brass, standard taper, unseamed crook.
• TG: Tenor tuning slide in gold brass, standard taper, unseamed crook.
• TYS: Tenor tuning slide in yellow brass, standard taper, seamed crook.
• TGXS: Tenor tuning slide in gold brass, X taper, seamed crook.

Most products sold in the United States receive a 15-day return policy that starts on the day the customer receives their order. The customer is responsible for the cost of initial and return shipping, except in the case of new French horns, trumpets, and trombones, which will receive free return shipping from 48 US states. There will be a $5 cleaning fee for each returned mouthpiece.

Some product categories are ineligible for return, which include special orders, sheet music, consumables such as lubricants or cleaning snakes, and personal items such as clothing or face masks.

Unfortunately, as of May 12, 2025, we can no longer offer returns, exchanges, or refunds to international customers due to the tariff situation. We hope to restore international returns soon.
