What’s the difference?

Both of these mutes function the same acoustically.  The main difference between the 12-sided and conical mutes is that the timbral differences between the materials are more pronounced in the 12-sided mutes.  The differences are less pronounced in the conical mutes.

RGC 12-Sided Mutes

Solid Cherry:
Relatively light wood
Focused sound
Projects well

 

Cherry and Ash:
Blends well
Ash tempers brightness of solid cherry

 

African Rosewood and Ash:
Rosewood is a dense wood
Dark, rich tone

 

RGC Conical Mutes

Ash:
Dryer
Clear, crisp attacks
Better clarity, less richness

Black Ash:
Richer sound

Solid Cherry:
Relatively light wood
Focused sound
Projects well
