Christine Richardson's Tall Trees is an original work for brass quintet inspired by walks among the towering pine trees in her neighborhood. Its starting point is a familiar natural landscape, reflecting the composer's broader interest in translating outdoor experiences into music for instrumental ensembles.

The Rose City Brass Quintet premiered the work in 2023, and Cascadia Composers selected it for the ensemble's Conflict & Resolution program in Portland. Richardson brings the perspective of both a horn player and a longtime music educator to her composing, following a career teaching band, orchestra, choir, and elementary music.

For a quintet exploring contemporary repertoire, the piece offers a nature-inspired program idea with a specific personal background, rather than an arrangement of an existing tune. The audio link below provides a way to explore the music before programming it.
