The Dieter Otto 201 model hails from the concert halls of Europe, where the Alexander 103 model reins supreme. Inspired by this tonal concept and unique Kruspe-style wrap common with European makers, Otto set out to refine and develop the 201 model horn for the modern orchestra and American market. After fine-tuning the bell and leadpipe taper, thumb rotor design, and minimal bracing, the result is a horn with a balanced feel between F and Bb sides of the instrument, and the increased response, projection, and clarity of sound that is demanded by orchestras around the world.

Founded in 1969 by Dieter Otto, who grew up in a family of instrument makers in Markneukirchen, Germany, the company is renowned for its craftsmanship and attention to detail. In 2006, Martin Ecker, a skilled brass instrument maker, joined the company and took full ownership in 2010. Ecker continues Otto’s legacy, combining traditional techniques with modern innovations, and offers customized instruments tailored to each musician's needs. Martin Ecker: Martin Ecker began his brass instrument-making apprenticeship in 1995 with Miraphone. By 2002, he became a master craftsman and later worked at Kanstul Musical Instruments in California. Since 2005, he has been with Dieter Otto, bringing new ideas and techniques to the company.

Dieter Otto: Dieter Otto began his apprenticeship at 14 in Markneukirchen, following his family's tradition of instrument making. He earned his master craftsman diploma while working in Stuttgart and later worked in Switzerland before founding his own company in 1969

Most products sold in the United States receive a 15-day return policy that starts on the day the customer receives their order. The customer is responsible for the cost of initial and return shipping, except in the case of new French horns, trumpets, and trombones, which will receive free return shipping from 48 US states. There will be a $5 cleaning fee for each returned mouthpiece.

Some product categories are ineligible for return, which include special orders, sheet music, consumables such as lubricants or cleaning snakes, and personal items such as clothing or face masks.

Unfortunately, as of May 12, 2025, we can no longer offer returns, exchanges, or refunds to international customers due to the tariff situation. We hope to restore international returns soon.
