Jacques-François Gallay's 12 Studies for 2nd Horn, Op. 57 develops the flexibility and musical control needed for low-horn playing. This International Music Company edition is edited by James Chambers.

The exercises do more than keep the instrument in its lowest register. Their value lies in connecting low notes to the rest of the horn's range, asking the player to move between registers while maintaining a coherent phrase. They offer material for working on a centered low sound, responsive articulation, and smooth transitions rather than treating low-register practice as an isolated task.

For lessons or focused individual study, the collection provides a musical complement to basic low-horn drills. These are the Opus 57 studies, a different collection from 12 Etudes Brillantes, Op 43.

* Note: Houghton Horns is not in any way affiliated with the creators of this video. We included the video to give you a general taste of what the song will sound like, but the artist's interpretation of the piece may vary from your sheet music.
