Greg Black has been making mouthpieces since 1985, carrying on the traditions of the great New York City mouthpiece makers. Today he and partner Benjamin Strickland run the shop in Mount Holly, North Carolina, where every mouthpiece is handmade. You'll find Greg Black mouthpieces in orchestras, Broadway pits, recording studios, and schools around the world.
The New York Futuro
The Futuro is a New York series mouthpiece built with a lightweight cup section and a standard weight rim section. You get the familiar New York rim and cup with a lighter feel in the body of the mouthpiece. The New York series itself is known for a balanced, centered sound that's rich and full.
New York Futuro 3.5 Specs
- Cup diameter: 26.40mm (1.040")
- Cup depth: Medium deep (5G style), a favorite for principal playing
- Construction: Lightweight cup section with a standard weight rim section
- Bore: 'K' (.281")
- Shank: Large (symphony tenor)
- Weight: Medium. Heavier mouthpieces slot more firmly, while lighter ones give you more flexibility in slotting and dynamic control. Light is a great all-around choice, and heavier weights tend to be preferred for orchestral work or the extremes of very soft and very loud playing.
