The 28H is part of Laskey's H Series lineup, which includes the 27H, 28H, 30H, and 32H. The H Series has a relatively straight-sided cup that blends into a concave funnel as it enters the throat. It's the preferred choice for piston valve tubas. If you play a rotary valve tuba and want a more brilliant sound, take a look at the 28G as well.
Laskey makes two shanks to fit a wide range of receivers. The American shank fits most American-made and styled tubas, and the European shank fits many European-made and styled tubas. Most 6/4 CC tubas need the European shank. The wrong shank can sit too deep or too shallow in the receiver, which affects intonation and response.
