Lowell Shaw's Mini-Trips introduces three horn players to the lighter, jazz-influenced world of his Tripperies and Fripperies. The collection contains eight short trios written with a limited range, giving younger players a way into the style without immediately taking on the demands of the larger works. This is the horn-trio edition, HN100, published by The Hornists' Nest.

The restricted range does not remove every challenge. Accidentals require attentive reading, and the three players still need to agree on pulse, note length, and balance. Those features make the pieces useful for teaching ensemble awareness alongside a less formal musical character than students may encounter in their usual exercises.

The set includes a score and separate parts. It can serve as a short chamber-music unit for a developing horn studio, with individual trios prepared one at a time before moving into Shaw's more demanding ensemble repertoire.

* Note: Houghton Horns is not in any way affiliated with the creators of this video. We included the video to give you a general taste of what the song will sound like, but the artist's interpretation of the piece may vary from your sheet music.
