This intrument is listed on consignment by the original owner's family, who purchased it new in 1958. It remains in great overall condition, and plays very well, with a smooth feel and rich tone that can also sizzle when pushed. The valves tested with good compression for thier age, all tuning slides are smooth and aligned, and the 3rd slide spring-loaded trigger works great!

Notably, both the bell and leadpipe are made of Olds' famous "Rey-O-Loy" Bronze alloy, which they reserved for thier top Recording model. It is rare for cornet examples to have both parts made in this material. The leadpipe was inspected and still seals with no leaks, thanks to this rare "Rey-O-Loy" option. The Olds Recording cornet also features a unique leadpipe design, made in one smooth an uninterrupted bend, as the main tuning slide is relocated near the bell. It was one of the first "in-bell" tuning slides ever produced. The Olds Recording models also feature an offset 2nd valve, which improves eronomics and also better balances the instrument, along with a 3rd slide trigger for quick and precise tuning. A professional horn of this nature competed against Bach, Conn, and custom models, and would be at home in a collector's playing rotation or for the aspiring musician.

To prepare for sale, our shop fully disassembled, carefully cleaned, and finished by hand. It recieved new corks, and a valve alignment with new felts on the top caps and valve stems. The majority of its original lacquer is still intact, minus some surface wear from playing and storage. There are minor dings on the leadpipe, and the waterkey has slight push-in, both purely cosmetic and do not affect playability. We chose to maintain the original lacuqer, versus removing the leadpipe to access these areas. Also included is a vintage Bach 7c mouthpiece in great shape (Corp "no-dot" stamp, 1960s era). The original case is also included, in clean and working shape, with the original owner's address on the outside.
